Bruce Springsteen at Dublin's RDS 2012.

After a couple gigs at Dublin’s RDS the Boss along with his son and another friend were sighted at several Dublin haunts including in the Long Hall on South Great George’s Street last night where he enjoyed a quiet pint and posed for a photo with the barman Val. Val confirmed that Bruce is no stranger to the place and often drops in during his visits to the country.

The 62-year-old Bruce Springsteen was enjoying some well-deserved down-time after his two hugely successful RDS gigs this week in front of nearly 70,000 fans. He played two marathon concerts which both lasted nearly three and a half hours during which he poked fun at the strictly enforced curfew at last week’s Hyde Park gig in London, made a TV star of a six-year-old fan and of paid tribute to long-term musical collaborator saxophonist Clarence Clemons with a emotional video montage.

Among those who enjoyed his Tuesday night gig were actor Daniel Day Lewis and film director Steven Spielberg. The pair have been working together on Spielberg’s upcoming Abraham Lincoln biopic, Lincoln, in which Day-Lewis plays the lead role.

Although having an American rock icon visit the “big smoke” was exciting, my wife reports that the streets were flooded with traffic leading up to the start of the sold out Springsteen shows at the RDS.
