This particular man from Moneygall has a close contact with the highest office on the planet, but it hasn’t saved Henry Healy’s career during Ireland’s self imposed European Union austerity program.
At this time last year Mr Healy and all of Ireland was welcoming his distant cousin President Barack Obama to his ancestral hometown of Moneygall, Ireland.
In fact, Mr Healy has visited the White House for a second time since that visit to Moneygall in Co Offaly last May.
Despite all of this good will it was the handcuffs of the EU which have left the 27 year old laid off from his position as a bookkeeper with a local plumbing firm. The much admired gentleman had been employed by the same firm for seven years.
“I couldn’t say a bad thing about them,” he said of his former employers, adding he felt “very fortunate” to have continued working in the construction sector for so long.
Mr Healy is now considering a possible career in teaching at secondary school level.
Last March he began a part time college course studying for a professional diploma in education but he is hoping to pick up something between now and his graduation.
We certainly wish him the best.
The Obama’s have been known to help out distant relatives in America, including an Aunt and Uncle who were residing in the U.S. illegally, detected by authorities and then later mysteriously acquiring green cards. There’s no reason not to help out his Moneygall cousin in his time of need.
