The dashing former 007, Pierce Brosnan has signed on to star in a new action drama currently titled The Coup, it has been announced.
According to Brosnan’s management, he will join lead Owen Wilson in the film, about an American who relocates his family to Southeast Asia and becomes entangled in a violent coup.
Brosnan will reportedly be playing a mysterious government spy in the action thriller, written by Devil director John Erick Dowdle and his brother Drew Dowdle.
Sources close to the film say that it will have the tone of Liam Neeson’s 2008 hit Taken, marking a return for Wilson to the action genre.
Filming on The Coup is scheduled to begin this October.
Brosnan most recently starred opposite Sarah Jessica Parker in I Don’t Know How She Does It.
He is also gearing up to star in the adaptation of the Nick Hornby novel A Long Way Down opposite Toni Collette.
Pierce Brendan Brosnan, was born 16 May 1953 at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Drogheda, County Louth, to Thomas Brosnan, a carpenter, and May, and was their only child. He lived in Navan, County Meath for 12 years and considers it his hometown.
Brosnan an Irish actor, film producer and environmentalist. After leaving school at 16, Brosnan began training in commercial illustration, but trained at the Drama Centre in London for three years. Following a stage acting career he rose to popularity in the television series Remington Steele (1982–87). He married American journalist and author Keely Shaye Smith in 2001, and he became an American citizen in 2004.
