Trim Co Meath Balloon Fiesta

The annual Trim Hot Air Balloon Fiesta took place over the Easter Bank Holiday Weekend from the 2nd – 5th of April 2012 and provided what was a spectacular, action-packed and fun-filled weekend for all the family..

With up to 20 different special shape balloons attending it was difficult to decide on a favorite. Bizzy and Honey, the Boyne Valley Honey Bees will undoubtedly be the star attractions as they entertain the crowds with their charming aerial displays of affection. They were joined by many larger than life friends including a giant Easter Chick and Easter Bunny, Darth Vader, Thomas the Tank Engine and Sonic the Hedgehog to name but a few.

Taking place at the Porchfields opposite Trim Castle, the annual Trim Hot Air Balloon Fiesta is one of the most spectacular and colourful events ever to arrive in Ireland. Stunning Special Shape Hot Air Balloons fly daily from a base alongside Trim Castle over the Meath countryside. The most amazing special shape balloons in the world were there, some of these balloons reached 150ft tall. The festival included plenty of other family fun activities including Easter egg hunts, daft raft races on the river, model hot air balloons, workshops and carnival activities. Pauline Baker, Fiesta Director and world record breaking balloonist, said “Trim has become known in aviation circles as the capital of Hot Air Ballooning in Ireland and now is the time to share the thrills of this incredible sport with a broader audience.”

All I can say is it’s something you’ll be amazed to behold. Located amongst castle ruins and in such spectacularly lush green, Irish countryside setting it’s quite an experience and one you and your family may never forget.
